Alicia Bayer Completes Grueling Langtang Expedition; Charity Hike Planned for Kathmandu
German ultra-endurance athlete Alicia Bayer has reached a new peak in her global advocacy tour, successfully summiting the 4,985-meter Tserko Ri in Nepal’s Langtang region. Her journey is about more than just physical limits; it is a high-altitude mission to raise awareness and funds for survivors of human trafficking.
Bayer’s ascent of Tserko Ri is part of a grueling seven-day, 132-kilometer expedition that began in Kathmandu. Covering a staggering total elevation gain of 8,470 meters, the athlete has maintained a rapid pace, moving from Syabrubesi to Kyanjin Gompa in just two days. Reflecting on the challenge, Bayer stated that endurance is a vital tool for advocacy, comparing the struggle of the mountains to the barriers faced by trafficking survivors every day.
The Nepal leg of her journey follows a massive 650-kilometer run from Mumbai to Goa, where she averaged nearly a marathon a day to promote girls’ education. In Nepal, she is collaborating with local NGOs through her project, “Run the World with Alicia,” documenting every step of her journey on social media to collect donations for local shelters and support programs.
Currently, Bayer is descending toward the sacred Gosaikunda Lakes. Her expedition will culminate on April 22 in Kathmandu, where she will lead a charity hike alongside NGO representatives and local supporters. Looking ahead, the athlete has set her sights on becoming the first German woman to complete the Everest Ultra later this year, further cementing her commitment to supporting charitable causes in Nepal.
