UML Warns of Nationwide Protests
The Prime Minister and Home Minister should either apologise or step down in response to the arrest of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, according to CPN (UML) General Secretary Shankar Pokharel. He argues that the government cannot hold leaders to different standards.
He insisted that the government should resign to permit legal action if it does not offer an apology. Pokharel stated that although the UML is not looking for a replacement for the four-month-old administration, its cadres have been told to be ready for public demonstrations in order to condemn what he called the government’s capricious conduct.
Along with reiterating the UML’s commitment to defending the constitution, democracy, and citizens’ rights, he urged democratic opposition parties to band together in order to stop the government from veering off course.
Pokharel questioned the foundation for the arrest in the money laundering case against UML Vice-Chairman Bishnu Paudel, stating that flaws in Nepal’s tax system shouldn’t always result in criminal prosecution and cautioning that doing so might deter lawful enterprises.
