Nepal–Thailand bilateral cooperation emphasized
Nepal and Thailand have emphasized bilateral cooperation. Nepal’s Ambassador to Thailand, Dhanbahadur Oli, met on Thursday with Urasa Mongkolnavin, the Director General of the Department of South Asia, Middle East, and Africa Affairs under the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On the occasion, both sides expressed satisfaction with the close and friendly relations between Nepal and Thailand and discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest such as trade, investment, tourism, culture, agriculture, and education, according to Nepal’s Embassy in Bangkok.
They also reviewed the implementation status of the eight memorandums of understanding concluded between Nepal and Thailand last year, with both sides emphasizing the effective implementation of those agreements. There was also discussion on promptly finalizing the proposed bilateral agreement on mutual legal assistance in agricultural cooperation and criminal matters. Both sides also exchanged views on holding the next meeting of the Nepal–Thailand Joint Consultative Mechanism in Nepal at a mutually convenient time as soon as possible.
Emphasis was also placed on increasing trade complementarities between Nepal and Thailand, strengthening the value chain between Nepali and Thai products, and adding further value through the integration of goods and services based on Himalayan and marine resources. Both sides expressed agreement to facilitate the ‘visa’ process on a reciprocal basis, improve tourism services, and strengthen cooperation in the exchange of information and intelligence to control human trafficking, money laundering, and cybercrime. Similarly, both sides expressed their commitment to enhance cooperation in regional and multilateral forums and to mutually support each other’s candidacies on international platforms, according to the statement issued by the embassy.
