Literary and musical program of Nepalese and Indian artists in Kathmandu

A one-day international literary and musical program was held in Kathmandu, organized by the World Bangla Literature and Culture Conference Kolkata, India-Nepal India Culture Harmonics. The program was attended by sixteen members of the World Bangla Literature and Culture Conference and writers from Sikkim. The event was jointly organized by Jara Foundation Nepal, Literary Journalists Association (SAPAS), and Shanti Sahitya Parivar, as a one-day literary and musical international program promoting Nepal-India cultural harmony. During the program, Krishna Prasai, president of Jara Foundation, delivered a speech in Bengali, highlighting the sweet relations between Nepal and India and praising Dr. Radhakanta Sarkar.

Expressing his views, Dr. Sarkar stated that even though the country, language, and attire may differ, our purpose and sentiments are the same. During his speech, he recited a poem titled ‘Woman’ and another poem written in English. Praising Nepalese people as very beautiful and friendly and the Nepali language as very sweet, he also invited Nepali writers to come to Calcutta. At the program, Prof. Rajatkishore De, former MP Rekha Yadav, and diplomat Narayan Mainali, among others, conveyed their greetings. The greetings were delivered in Nepali, English, Bengali, and Hindi. In Calcutta, poet Dr. Sarkar was honored with a certificate of appreciation, and artist Menuka Lama performed the Aryatara Charya dance. Similarly, Shikha Thapa from Assam also performed beautiful dances to Nepali and Assamese songs.

Composer and singer Pradeep Bamjan had turned Rabindranath Tagore’s poem ‘Akla Cholo’ into a song and sung it. Dr. Shivani Das sang Nepali and Hindi songs, Tuna Majumdar sang Bengali songs, Narhari Premi sang Nepali and Hindi songs, Sandesh Paudel sang Nepali songs, Anil Shrestha and Sangeeta Baruwal sang Deuda songs, and Subhash Bandhopadhyay sang Bengali songs. At the program, poets Manimala Mallik, Sharmila Sen, Gitikanta Majumdar, Samarshankar Chattopadhyay, Ashishkumar Kaur, Gauri Sarkar, and Shivshankar Bakshi recited poetry in their own languages.

Former MP Rekha Yadav also recited one of her own poems written in Hindi, while Nepalese poet Rita Khatri recited a poem on behalf of the Nepali poets. At the program, invited personalities from Kolkata and Sikkim, the poets who recited poems, the singers, and the dance performers were also presented with tokens of love, and all attendees were welcomed and honored by being given rudraksha malas.
