Nepal Election: RSP Emerges Front-Runner in Initial Vote Trends
Early trends from the ongoing vote counting in Nepal’s national election indicate a strong performance by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), which is currently leading in a large number of constituencies. According to preliminary updates, the party is ahead in around 42 seats, significantly surpassing other major political parties.
Initial figures show that the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) (CPN-UML), Nepali Congress, and the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) are each leading in about five seats in the early stages of counting. While the vote counting process is still underway, the early trend suggests a major surge in support for the RSP compared to traditional political forces.
Political analysts believe that if the current trend continues, the Rastriya Swatantra Party could emerge as the largest political force in the new parliament. Such a result could significantly change the country’s political balance and influence the formation of the next federal government.
However, election officials have cautioned that these numbers are based only on early vote counts and may change as counting continues across all constituencies. Final results are expected after the complete counting process is finished.
The election outcome is being closely watched across Nepal as it may reshape the country’s political landscape. A strong performance by the RSP would signal growing public support for newer political alternatives and could mark a major shift away from the traditional parties that have dominated Nepal’s politics for decades.
