MIT Group Foundation and NCRC Partner for Rs 578.5 Million Flood Relief Plan for Children
The National Child Rights Council (NCRC) and MIT Group Foundation (MITGF) have partnered to launch a comprehensive, long-term support programme for up to 110 children who lost one or both parents in the 2026 Bhotekoshi floods. Designed to assist economically and socially vulnerable children through Grade 12, the initiative covers school and examination fees, educational materials, healthcare, nutrition, living and transport expenses, psychosocial services, and kinship care assistance. Following verification by the NCRC and local authorities, priority will be given to double orphans and the most vulnerable, with an emphasis on safe family and kinship care rather than institutional placement. MITGF has set a first-year planning ceiling of up to Rs 300,000 per child based on individual needs, alongside an estimated maximum envelope of Rs 578.5 million over the 10-year programme, while taking existing government scholarships into account to avoid duplicate aid. Emphasizing the commitment to secure the future of children impacted by the disaster, MITGF President Dr. Shesh Ghale stated that the partnership with the Government of Nepal and NCRC aims to provide stability and support so these children can complete their education, with both organizations jointly overseeing safeguarding, individual development plans, and program delivery under applicable Nepali law.
