Korea Pledges Support as Ambassador Meets Nepal Minister on Flood Relief
Minister for Communication and Information Technology Bikram Timilsina held a courtesy meeting with South Korean Ambassador to Nepal Park Tae-young at the ministry on Friday. The discussion primarily focused on bilateral relations, rescue and rehabilitation efforts for the victims of the Bhote Koshi floods, and potential cooperation in the fields of information technology, the digital economy, and artificial intelligence. Minister Timilsina expressed gratitude for South Korea’s support and sympathy following the disaster caused by the Bhote Koshi floods.
He commended the deployment of the Korean disaster management team for search and rescue operations and thanked the Korean government for its commitment to reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts. The Minister emphasized the need to further strengthen friendly relations between the two countries based on mutual respect and cooperation. Ambassador Park assured that South Korea would continue its support for rescue and rehabilitation in the flood-affected areas.
He expressed concern regarding the safety of Korean citizens affected by the disaster and noted that the Korean rescue team had successfully rescued 10 people. However, he stated that nine Korean citizens working at the Upper Trishuli-1 project site remain out of contact.
During the meeting, Ambassador Park also briefed the Minister on the 12th Global ICT Leadership Forum, scheduled to be held in South Korea starting September 30. Organized by South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT and coordinated by the National Information Society Agency, the forum will facilitate high-level discussions on cooperation and future strategies regarding information technology and artificial intelligence.
