Cane furniture becoming a good Livelihood
62 Rajkumar Shrestha, of Itahari sub-metropolitan city-7 in Sunsari, has been creating rattan furniture for the past 21 years. He has been constructing furniture from cane from Siliguri, India. He stated that he has been creating and selling rattan products for 22 years. Although furniture is pricey, there is a demand for it. He further stated that buyers appreciate his items because rattan furniture is both stylish and sturdy. He’s also started manufacturing decorative stuff. Currently, his shop sells 12 different varieties of rattan items.
Rattan decorations sell at between Rs 700 and Rs 16,000. A bundle of fishing nets from Siliguri costs Rs 3,500. He stated that he had no loss because he could create up to five products from a single bundle of cane. Like Rajkumar, Parshu Tamang of Dharan-9 has made a lot of money selling fishing rod materials. He stated that he has been creating rattan furniture for 11 years and earns up to Rs 80,000 each month. Rattan products can last for 10 to 25 years. He underlines that if you have the talents, you do not need to go abroad for work, and you should encourage the younger generation to do business in the country.
