Nepal Forecasts Heavy Rainfall in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini

Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces on Monday as Nepal remains under the influence of active monsoon winds, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. Generally cloudy conditions are expected across the Himalayan and hilly regions, Madhesh Province and parts of the Terai, while moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at several places in the Himalayan and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki. Similar rainfall is forecast at a few places in Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, with thunderstorms also expected across Madhesh and parts of the Terai. Isolated rainfall may occur in the Terai districts of Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim. The department said the monsoon trough is currently positioned south of its average location, while a low-pressure area has formed over the North Andaman Sea and adjoining regions and is expected to strengthen and move west-northwestward in the coming days. Temperatures are forecast to reach 35–37°C in Bhairahawa and Simara, while Kathmandu is expected to record a maximum of 29–31°C and a minimum of 18–20°C.
