Nepal Govt Seeks Stakeholder Input on Proposed Amendments to 59 Laws

The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Friday held consultations with lawmakers and private sector representatives on a draft bill proposing amendments to 59 existing laws related to investment and infrastructure.

The meeting, held at Singha Durbar, was attended by Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s political adviser Asim Shah, policy adviser Sudip Dhakal, Law Secretary Pushkar Sapkota and representatives of major business organisations, including the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Confederation of Nepalese Industries. During the discussion, Sapkota outlined 474 proposed amendments aimed at addressing legal hurdles and improving the investment climate. Government advisers stressed the need for timely legal reforms and a more business-friendly environment to attract investment.

Private sector representatives shared their suggestions and said they would submit further recommendations in writing. The feedback will be reviewed before the revised proposals are forwarded to the concerned ministries for the amendment process. The consultation was organised ahead of the Nepal Infrastructure Summit, scheduled for December 9–10, which will focus on public-private partnerships.
