‘The Odyssey’ becomes the highest-grossing R-rated film
Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster epic ‘The Odyssey’ has set another record during its spectacular box-office run. According to Variety, the film has become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, earning $1.352 billion worldwide. In doing so, it surpassed the record held by the 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine, which grossed $1.338 billion. ‘The Odyssey’ was released in theaters on July 17 and raked in an impressive $123 million during its domestic opening weekend alone. Since then, the epic has earned $516 million domestically and $835 million internationally. Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds celebrated the achievement on social media, writing, “Congratulations to the entire cast and crew of ‘The Odyssey’ for becoming the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. That is truly amazing.” This milestone comes just days after ‘The Odyssey’ became the highest-grossing film of Nolan’s career. It has also become the highest-grossing film for Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and Tom Holland. Based on Homer’s ancient Greek poem, the film depicts King Odysseus’s (Matt Damon) perilous journey back to Ithaca following the Trojan War. The journey involves battles with mythological creatures as he attempts to reunite with his wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and son Telemachus (Tom Holland). The film also features Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, Corey Hawkins, Jon Bernthal, Samantha Morton, Travis Scott, and Benny Safdie.
