Opposition Demands PM, Home Minister’s Resignation Over Sunsari Violence

Opposition parties on Thursday jointly demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Balendra (Balen) Shah and Home Minister Sudhan Gurung following the deadly violence in Kaptanganj, Sunsari, which claimed one life and injured dozens.

During the House of Representatives session, lawmakers from the Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), Nepali Communist Party and Shram Sanskriti Party accused the government of failing to maintain law and order. They called for an impartial investigation, action against those responsible, and compensation for the victim’s family.

Opposition leaders also renewed their demand for the Prime Minister to clarify his May 31 remarks on India border issues and sought to have the comments removed from parliamentary records. The session witnessed repeated disruptions as the opposition intensified pressure on the government.
