Monsoon Brings Rain to Hills While Tarai Temperatures Remain High

Monsoon conditions will continue to bring rain and thunderstorms across Nepal on Wednesday, with parts of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces at risk of heavy rainfall. The Meteorological Forecasting Division has forecast heavy rain at one or two places in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi and Bagmati, and in the hilly region of Gandaki. Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is expected at many places in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini, and at some places in Karnali and Sudurpashchim. The Tarai will remain hot, although moderate rain and thunderstorms are likely in parts of the region. Wet conditions are expected to continue overnight and into Thursday, with further heavy rainfall possible in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini. Kathmandu has a 60 percent chance of rain today and tonight, with temperatures ranging from 20–30°C, while Pokhara has a 70 percent chance of rain, with temperatures between 23–32°C. Temperatures in Simara, Bhairahawa, Janakpur and Dipayal could reach 33–35°C, while Jumla may record the coolest night at 12–14°C. The division said monsoon winds continue to influence the country, with the monsoon trough near its average position.
