Home Minister Sudhan Faces Pressure to Step Down Over Fresh Controversy
Home Minister Sudan Gurung has been drawn into controversy. Minister Gurung has come under scrutiny after a connection was seen with businessman Deepak Bhatt, who is in police custody during an investigation into money laundering.
After the matter of partnership with Bhatt came to light, discussions about Minister Gurung have also arisen within the Rastriya Swatantra Party (Raswapa). Documents have been made public showing that Home Minister Gurung took shares in Star Micro Insurance Company, which is associated with the controversial businessman Bhatt, in his own name.
Raswapa MPs have also pressured President Ravi Lamichhane to immediately make Minister Gurung resign from his position.
With various questions arising about the ministers less than a month after the formation of the government, President Lamichhane has been seen under stress. A Raswapa leader stated that Lamichhane plans to meet with Prime Minister Balen Shah to discuss matters related to Home Minister Gurung.
The GenZ Movement has demanded that Home Minister Gurung be immediately dismissed from his position for an impartial investigation into the serious allegations.
