California Sherpa Association Donates Over NPR 17 Million to Nepal Flood Relief Fund

The California Sherpa Association (CSA) has contributed more than NPR 17 million to Nepal’s Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund to assist communities affected by recent floods. The donation was officially transferred on November 2, according to CSA president Gombu Sherpa.

Sherpa confirmed that the association had deposited USD 116,046.66 into the relief fund’s Himalayan Bank account, following an organisational decision to support flood-hit communities.

The contribution was raised through a charity fundraising programme jointly organised by the California Sherpa Association and the Himalayan Sherpa Club of Sonoma last month. Titled Sonoma for Nepal: A Flood Relief Charity Dinner, the event took place at Sonoma Veterans Memorial Hall with support from the City of Sonoma.

Hundreds of people, including members of the Nepali community, local dignitaries, restaurants, wineries and volunteer groups, participated in the initiative. Buddhist prayers were also offered in memory of those who lost their lives in the floods.

Organisers screened footage showing the destruction caused by the August 26 floods along the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli corridors. Sonoma Mayor Ron Wellander and California Representative Mike Thompson also attended, appreciating the community’s humanitarian efforts.

Himalayan Sherpa Club president Pemba Sherpa said the event brought the Nepali diaspora together for a meaningful cause and strengthened its connection with the homeland.

The organisers expressed gratitude to donors, volunteers, local businesses and authorities for supporting the fundraising campaign.
