Belauri Municipality Expands Biogas Programme to Promote Clean and Sustainable Energy

Belauri Municipality has stepped up its efforts to promote clean and renewable energy by installing biogas plants across the community, aiming to reduce dependence on traditional cooking fuels while encouraging environmentally sustainable practices. The initiative is designed to help households convert organic waste and livestock manure into biogas, providing an affordable and eco-friendly source of energy for daily cooking and other household needs. Municipal officials believe the programme will improve waste management, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and reduce the use of firewood and liquefied petroleum gas, contributing to better environmental conservation and improved public health. The project is also expected to ease the financial burden on families by lowering household energy costs while producing organic slurry that can be used as natural fertilizer to enhance agricultural productivity. By promoting renewable energy at the local level, Belauri Municipality aims to strengthen energy security and support Nepal’s broader efforts to expand the use of sustainable technologies in rural and semi-urban communities. The initiative includes awareness campaigns and technical assistance to ensure that residents can effectively operate and maintain the biogas systems for long-term benefits. Experts believe such community-based renewable energy projects can play a vital role in improving living standards, reducing pollution, and supporting climate action while creating a cleaner environment for future generations. The expansion of biogas infrastructure reflects the municipality’s commitment to sustainable development and demonstrates how local governments can contribute to national clean energy goals through practical, community-focused solutions.
