Acham District Hospital faces challenges due of its deteriorating infrastructure

The district’s biggest hospital, Achham Hospital, which was constructed fifty years ago, is currently in poor shape. This large hospital in Achham’s outdated infrastructure has had a significant impact on health care. Shiva Bogati claims that anytime it rains, rainwater seeps into the OT, emergency room, and OPD through the tin chamber. Despite its inadequate infrastructure, the hospital, which started out with 15 beds, now has 35 beds to serve the increasing number of patients. According to Bogati, they are forced to install extra beds in order to accommodate the patient flow. In 2021–2022, the Department of UD and BC made the decision to release tenders for the construction of a 50-bed medical facility. However, a lack of budget assurance caused the tender bidding to halt.

Representatives of the populace have also voiced their displeasure with the government’s disregard for the district hospital. The hospital’s structure is dilapidated and ancient. Achham has been overlooked as better and newer healthcare facilities have been built in other province districts. According to Pushpa Bahadur Shah, he was chosen to represent Achham constituency 2 in the federal parliament. Locals lament that the hospital is increasingly becoming a referral center, sometimes as a result of a shortage of medications and other times because of a lack of equipment and human resources.
