Nepal Launches Three-Month Dengue Awareness Campaign
Nepal has recorded 2,844 dengue cases across 74 districts between January 1 and August 15, with health authorities warning that infections could increase during and after the monsoon. Gandaki Province has reported the highest number of cases at 1,010, followed by Koshi with 674, while two dengue-related deaths have been verified so far this year. Baglung has recorded the highest number of cases among districts, with 470 infections. The Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) is conducting regular assessments and has launched a three-month dengue awareness campaign focusing on monitoring and eliminating mosquito breeding sites. The campaign coincides with World Mosquito Day on August 20, observed this year under the theme “Small Bite, Big Threat.” The EDCD has also released a national profile documenting disease-transmitting vectors in Nepal, covering threats such as dengue, malaria, kala-azar and Japanese encephalitis. Health authorities have urged the public to prevent mosquito bites, remove stagnant water, maintain clean surroundings and remain vigilant during the monsoon and post-monsoon periods.
