Closed Session Sets Stage for RSP’s Leadership Election
The first general convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) entered a crucial phase on Monday as delegates gathered for a closed-door session ahead of the party’s leadership election. The session is expected to focus on key political, organisational, financial, and statute amendment documents that will help shape the party’s future direction.
The proceedings began with the presentation of the disciplinary committee’s report, followed by discussions among delegates. Treasurer Lima Adhikari presented the party’s financial report, while General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti tabled the organisational report for review. Joint General Secretary Bipin Acharya also presented proposed amendments to the party statute, which delegates will discuss and endorse during the session.
Vice Chairperson and Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle is scheduled to present the party’s economic and political proposal, outlining priorities and policy perspectives. Party Chairperson Rabi Lamichhane will then deliver a political report assessing the current political landscape and setting out the party’s vision and strategy for the future.
Following deliberations, the convention will form an interim management committee before the organising committee formally transfers responsibility to the party’s central election commission. The move will pave the way for the nomination and election process for the party chairperson and the 99-member central committee. The convention marks an important milestone for the ruling party as it seeks to strengthen its organisational structure and democratic processes ahead of Tuesday’s voting.
