Six Nepalis elected in local elections held in the UK
Six Nepalis have been elected in the local elections held in the United Kingdom. Local elections were held on Thursday in three UK countries: England, Scotland, and Wales. Among more than a dozen non-resident Nepalis who contested from various parties, six have emerged victorious. Pratiksha Gurung has been elected as a councillor from the Battle Ward in Reading representing the Labour Party. Similarly, JiB Belbase has won from the Manor Park Ward in Aldershot.
He is a former spokesperson of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) UK. Similarly, a former British Gurkha, North Gurung, has been elected as a councillor from Wellington Ward of Aldershot representing the Labour Party. In the London Borough of Barnet, Lakshbahadur Gurung from the Conservative Party has again been elected as a councillor. In the election, a Nepali couple has also been elected as councillors. From Plumstead and Glyndon Ward in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, London, former mayor Jeet Rana has won as a candidate from the Labour Party. His wife, Gaumaya Gurung, has also been elected as a councillor from the ABU Ward under the same borough.
