The Nepali Army will hold a former soldiers’ conference

The Nepali Army is organizing a reunion event for approximately 90 retired soldiers, with the initiative beginning in the year 2070 BS. This reunion, part of a series of programs initiated to enhance soldier welfare, including education and health support for retired soldiers’ families, reflects the motto that once a soldier, always a soldier. The reunion is a significant event held once during each Chief of Army Staff’s tenure and is structured into three distinct phases across designated provinces to ensure a systematic approach over three years.

The overarching theme of this year’s Veterans Military Conference revolves around reunion, reconnection of former soldiers, welfare for beneficiaries, and the sustainability of the associated fund. The conference aims to rejuvenate the post-retirement life of soldiers, facilitating interactions where they can share both joyful and sorrowful experiences. This fosters a strong bond between active and retired soldiers and keeps them informed about various welfare initiatives run by the Nepal Army. Additionally, it serves as a platform to gather suggestions for enhancing the effectiveness of these initiatives, as conveyed by Army spokesperson Assistant Rathi Rajaram Basnet.

Such reunions have established networks of ex-servicemen and encourage collaboration between ex-servicemen, active-duty soldiers, and single women. These interactions create a cooperative environment beneficial to both groups. This year’s conference, projected to engage around 33,000 participants from Lumbini, Gandaki, Madhes, and Bagmati Provinces, will unfold in four phases between Chaitra 22 and Baisakh 4 at multiple locations across 34 districts under the Mid-Western and Western divisions, including areas such as Rupandehi, Dang, and Kaski, among others. The purpose of these gatherings is to strengthen ties and improve the overall welfare of all involved.
