Gandaki Province has allowed ride-sharing services

Ride-sharing services are now permitted to operate in Gandaki Province by the provincial authorities. Private two-wheeler and four-wheeler cars can now provide ride-sharing services by completing all necessary procedures, including passenger insurance. According to Prakash Bahadur KC, the province’s minister of physical infrastructure and transportation, ride-sharing services were officially acknowledged following the province government’s meeting and the Council of Ministers’ endorsement of the legislation pertaining to vehicle and transport management. The Vehicle and Transportation Management Regulation-2080 BS was approved by the Council of Ministers at its meeting on Tuesday. Minister KC promised that the regulation would be put into effect shortly.

The Supreme Court had previously decided that ride-sharing services could be operated legally while taking into account the rights of consumers as well as their labor and employment concerns. According to Minister KC, the legislation that was proposed following lengthy stakeholder discussions and preparation will both legitimize and regulate the service. Since the province government is in charge of transportation management, he said, the ride-sharing service has been made legal in the province by establishing a legislative framework. Currently, Nepal is home to a number of ride-sharing services, including In-Drive, Sajilo, Taximandu, and Pathao.
