Final step of preparations for the yearly Bahrabise Fair

In Waling Municipality, preparations are well underway for the traditional Chaite Dashain fair. The local youth’s efforts will ensure that the fair continues. Locals claim that the Aadhi Khola, which is situated on the edge of Waling Wards No. 9 and 13, has hosted the Chaite Dashain Fair for 150 years. “The fair was held in a grand manner and they used to collect money six months in advance to attend the fair,” said Shyam Prasad Gaire, 91, of Waling Municipality-13. The last stage of the fair’s preparations has been reached, according to Arjun Gautam, head of the Waling Bahrabise Market Conservation Committee. He claimed that in order to carry on the historical tradition, reparations had been made.

The fair’s motto, according to Gautam, is “Save the old tradition, promote the Bahrabise Market, and make it grand.” The fair is slated for April 6 and preparations are proceeding swiftly. The fair was held for three days before to the COVID-19 pandemic, but last year it was only celebrated on one day, with the young actively participating. Since ancient times, when there were few markets, the fair has been crucial in promoting regional goods, customs, and economic activity, according to the young people. At the market, local goods like sugarcane, ceramics, and traditional handicrafts will be for sale and on exhibit.
