Wild elephant enter in the Haripur area, locals are in deep fear

The arrival of wild elephants in Haripur Municipality-1 in Sarlahi district has frightened the locals. Their homes and field crops have been destroyed by elephants that came in in groups. Residents have been terrorized by three untamed elephants. In just four days, the elephant has destroyed three houses. Locals claim that on Sunday morning, an elephant demolished Prem Bahadur Lama and Keshav Upreti’s homes close to Janakinagar Partnership Forest. Local resident Tulmaya Magar’s home was demolished by a herd of elephants on Friday night. The elephants have already destroyed crops like sugarcane, wheat, and maize that local farmers planted on more than two bighas of land, according to Nanibabu Thapa, the Ward Chairperson of Haripur.

Thapa, the ward chairperson, stated that he had made a request for control of wild elephants to the Division Forest Office. Due to the Chief Administrative Officer’s absence from the municipality office, funds could not be allocated for the residents’ demands to install lights on the electricity poles throughout the settlement. Residents of Janakinagar, Murtia, Ghurkauli, and other communities surrounding the forest area are in a state of panic due to wild elephants. The division forest office chief stated that the national park and the forest office were powerless to stop the wild elephants. He advised the residents to be careful and refrain from making fun of elephants. According to Division Forest Chief Jha, if elephants cause damage to homes or crops, compensation will be given in accordance with the regulations.
