This year, the Tharu people will spend two days in Kathmandu’s Tuindikhel celebrating the Maghi festival. The Maghi celebration will take place on January 13 and 14, according to Premil Lal Chaudhary, the chairperson of the Tharu Welfare Assembly and coordinator of the Tharu National Maghi celebration, Main Organising Committee. Since it is the Tharu community’s new year, he said, they have been celebrating the Maghi celebration in Kathmandu since 2059 BS and have chosen to celebrate it for two days. The first day is set aside for the Zita Marna program and blood donation, while the second day is dedicated to the Maghi celebration.

The Maghi celebration is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. ‘Our goal aims to conserve, enrich and promote Tharu culture, appeals for proportional inclusive access to everyone’ is the theme for this year’s Maghi festival.
