Today’s Nepal earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.1, strikes Kathmandu and causes tremors in Delhi-NCR

At 6:35 a.m., 93 kilometers northeast of Lobuche, close to the Nepal-Tibetan border, Nepal had an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1. Bihar and other parts of North India, including Delhi-NCR, were rocked by the earthquake. Although no property damage was reported, people were observed outside of homes and apartments in Bihar. Because of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates’ convergence, Nepal, which is situated in a seismically active area, experiences earthquakes frequently.

In the Lobuche region of Nepal, close to the Khumbu Glacier and Everest Base Camp, there has been a tremor. Xizang, 150 kilometers from the capital, is the epicenter. People are being urged to maintain their composure and be ready for aftershocks, and emergency response personnel in Nepal and India are keeping an eye on the impacts. The Tibetan Autonomous Region of Xizang was the location of the 6.35 AM tremor.

Two further earthquakes occurred in the region later in the morning after the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NCS) reported an EQ of 7.1 on July 1, 2025. With an epicenter in latitude 28.60 degrees North and longitude 87.68 degrees East, the first earthquake had a magnitude of 4.7 and a depth of 10 kilometers. The second earthquake had a magnitude of 4.9 and a depth of 30 kilometers.
