Sandeep Lamichhane Replaces Rohit Paudel as Nepal’s ODI Captain

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has appointed 26-year-old leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane as the new captain of the men’s One Day International (ODI) team, replacing Rohit Paudel. The announcement was made alongside the squad selection for the upcoming ACC Men’s Premier Cup, scheduled to take place in Malaysia.  

Lamichhane, who previously led Nepal in 14 ODIs before Paudel assumed leadership in late 2022, returns to the captaincy role as Nepal seeks to rebuild momentum in 50-over cricket following recent setbacks in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2. Lamichhane brings extensive international experience to the position, boasting 154 wickets in 77 ODIs. Paudel steps down following a successful tenure during which he guided Nepal to a historic run in World Cup League 2 and direct qualification for the 2023 ODI World Cup Qualifier.
