More than 100 foreign trekkers have been stranded along the popular Manaslu trekking route in Nepal’s northern Gorkha district after sudden flash floods and landslides washed away bridges and severed key trails. The flooding was triggered when a massive pre-dawn landslide blocked the Budhi Gandaki River in Chumnubri village, causing water to dam up before breaching and sending torrents downstream.

According to officials from the Manaslu Conservation Area Project, the stranded trekkers remain sheltered in local tea houses and lodges along safe stretches of the circuit. While those wishing to continue their journey can do so where terrain remains intact, emergency teams and security forces have mobilized to airlift and evacuate those seeking to return. Downstream settlements in Gorkha, Tanahun, and Chitwan districts have been placed on high alert as river levels fluctuate and search-and-rescue operations continue.
