Kathmandu Receives 53,000+ LPG Cylinders as Tanker Movement Halts
More than 50,000 LPG cylinders were dispatched to Kathmandu on Wednesday to prevent a possible cooking gas shortage after landslides and river erosion damaged the Prithvi Highway at the Krishnabhir section on August 30, disrupting the movement of gas tankers to the Kathmandu Valley. According to Bimal Kalakheti, a central member of the Nepal LP Gas Industry Association, bottling plants in several districts supplied a total of 53,469 full cylinders to Kathmandu as part of alternative supply arrangements. The cylinders were dispatched from gas industries in districts including Bara, Parsa, Dhanusha, Chitwan, Makwanpur, Nawalpur and Nawalparasi. Chitwan-based plants were among the largest contributors, while several industries in Bara and Parsa also increased supplies to the capital. The emergency distribution aims to ensure uninterrupted access to cooking gas as demand remains high in Kathmandu Valley despite the highway disruption. The alternative supply measures are expected to help maintain adequate LPG stocks in the capital until regular tanker transportation through the affected highway section resumes.
