Infrastructural Delay Leaves Bara Farmland Without Electricity Despite Installation of Power Poles

Farmers across the Bara district in southern Nepal continue to suffer severe irrigation shortages because newly installed utility infrastructure remains unpowered, leaving vast stretches of agricultural land without access to electricity. Although local government authorities and electricity boards erected concrete power poles across several farming villages months ago, the high-voltage transmission lines, transformers, and final grid connections have not been installed. As a result, agricultural communities that relied on the promised electrification to power electric water pumps remain forced to depend on expensive diesel-powered tube wells or rain-fed irrigation, sharply driving up cultivation costs during critical planting seasons. Frustrated local farmers reported that despite paying administrative fees and submitting formal requests for agricultural power connections, bureaucratic delays between regional distribution centers and local contractors have stalled project completion indefinitely. Agriculture officers in the region acknowledged that the lack of functional power grids severely hinders crop yield potential, reducing local farming profitability amidst rising fuel prices. Community representatives have urged provincial authorities and the Nepal Electricity Authority to expedite line stringing and transformer setup immediately, warning that further delays will jeopardize the upcoming harvest cycle and worsen rural financial distress across the Bara belt.
