Harka Sampang Calls for Balanced Development in Remote Nepal
Shram Sanskriti Party chairman and lawmaker Harka Sampang Rai has called for equal access to public services in remote areas, saying disparities in education, healthcare and transport are driving people away from rural communities.
During a visit to Adanchuli and Sarkegad rural municipalities, Sampang stressed that people would continue living in remote areas if essential services were made accessible. He also pledged to end the use of tuins—risky cable crossings used to cross rivers—following reports of local residents facing dangerous journeys. His visit was linked to a proposed suspension bridge over the Karnali River at Khadikhet in Sarkegad Rural Municipality-2.
The bridge project, being pursued through the NGO Kadoorie, has entered the initial process. Residents are now awaiting progress on construction and a timeline for the bridge’s completion. People in Humla, a remote Himalayan district, have long struggled with inadequate roads, bridges and basic public services.
