The amount of woodland area grows by 0.75 percent

Compared to 2019, the country’s forest cover grew by 0.75 percent in 2022. According to the research, in 2022, rocks, snow, glaciers, other forested land, riverine wasteland, built-up area, water, and open land would make up 19% of Nepal’s total land area. According to the Director General of the FRTC, 46.08% of Nepal’s territory was covered by forests and other woody areas in 2022. It was discovered that the area covered by other woody areas has shrunk during that time. According to the Director General, some arable land and the remaining woodland area have been turned into forest land.

The several national and international organizations involved would be given access to the report’s real-time and periodic data on land-cover change. The Director General of the FRTC also thought that the study would be a useful tool for developing a realistic strategic plan for forests and other studies, as well as for ensuring coordination in the development of forests and adjacent regions. In 2022, 65.4% of the Tarai’s land area was used for agricultural, according to Director General KC. In 2022, Chure’s forest cover was 73.67%, the mid-hills region’s was 64.54%, and the mountainous region’s was 57.20%.
