Active Monsoon system Triggers Rainfall and Thunderstorm Alerts in Nepal

Nepal’s Meteorological Forecasting Division has issued a forecast warning of potential heavy rainfall across hilly regions in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpashchim provinces as active monsoon winds, combined with partial westerly wind influences, continue to affect the country. The current weather pattern—driven by a monsoon trough positioned south of its normal location—is expected to bring light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning to multiple places nationwide, including the Terai belt and various hill districts. Additionally, light to moderate rain or snowfall with thunderstorms is anticipated in the high-elevation Himalayan areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim. Major urban centers and western cities, including Kathmandu—which expects maximum temperatures between 27–29°C with a 40% chance of rain—along with Pokhara, Dadeldhura, Dhangadhi, and Nepalgunj, are all slated to experience cloudy conditions, localized rainfall, and thunderstorm activity as the active monsoon system persists through the evening.
