Nepal Police Strengthen Emotional Resilience Through Mental Health Training

Mental health and emotional well-being took center stage as 50 Nepal Police officers participated in a specialized self-care and stress management training programme held at the Nepal Police Armed Police Battalion No. 1 in Naxal. The initiative was organized by Zonta Club Kathmandu in collaboration with Nepal Police to help officers better manage the psychological demands of their profession.

The training was led by psychiatrist Dr. Ananta Adhikari, Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the National Academy of Medical Sciences and former director of the Mental Hospital in Lagankhel, alongside clinical psychologist Sita Bhandary, an MPhil-PhD scholar at Tribhuvan University with extensive experience in psychosocial training.

The session focused on recognizing common mental health challenges faced by police personnel, reducing the stigma associated with seeking professional psychological support, and developing practical stress-management and self-care strategies. Participants also learned how to identify warning signs that may require professional mental health intervention.

The programme concluded with an interactive discussion and group therapy session, allowing officers to share experiences and reinforce the importance of emotional resilience in policing.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Superintendent of Police Apil Bohara and Zonta Club Kathmandu President Mridula Rajbhandari emphasized the need to strengthen preventive mental health support within the police force.

Organizers said the initiative forms part of Zonta Club Kathmandu’s ongoing partnership with Nepal Police, supporting programmes focused on gender-based violence prevention, community well-being, and institutional capacity building.
