Foreign Minister Khanal Meets U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Hooker for Key Talks

Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal had a telephone conversation with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Alison Hookerbach. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the discussion, Deputy Secretary Hooker congratulated Minister Khanal on his new responsibility and expressed the U.S. government’s commitment to working more closely with the Government of Nepal. In response, Foreign Minister Khanal expressed gratitude for the American congratulatory message and, on behalf of the Government of Nepal, extended heartfelt appreciation for the continuous support that the U.S. has been providing for Nepal’s overall social and economic development. During the conversation, Minister Khanal shared the main priorities of the current government. He clarified that Nepal aims to promote good governance and economic growth by attracting foreign investment, particularly in infrastructure development, energy, tourism, and digital technology.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Hooker highly praised the development priorities set by the Nepali government and made it clear that American support will continue in this transformative process. In the context of the talks, she mentioned that her first conversation with Nepal was excellent, focusing on how the two countries can enhance cooperation in trade and investment. She also expressed that she is eager to remain in continuous contact in the coming days to further strengthen mutual partnership. On this occasion, Foreign Minister Khanal and Deputy Secretary Hooker recalled the historic and friendly relationship that has existed between Nepal and the United States for eight decades. They also reiterated a shared commitment to further strengthen and make more effective cooperation in areas of mutual interest in bilateral and multilateral forums.
