Senior sarod player Sudarshan Rajopadhyay honored in India
Senior sarod player Sudarshan Rajopadhyay has been honored with the Kalakshetram Award in India. Rajopadhyay received the award at the India Festival 2026 organized by the Akhil Lok Kala Cultural Organization in Pune.
At the festival, more than 3,500 artists from different states of India performed folk and classical art forms, including Bharatanatyam and Kathak. Rajopadhyay was invited to serve as a judge at the festival, which was held from May 16 to 22. In recognition of his contribution and role as a judge in Pune, he was honored with the prestigious Kalakshetram Award.
Earlier as well, by promoting Nepal’s art and culture on international platforms, he participated in programs across various states of India. Over the years, he has received several honors, including the Surtaal International Honor Award 2025, Diversity and Unity National Honor 2020, Indian Besties Award 2019, and the title of Sangeetmanjari from the Government of West Bengal. Similarly, in 2015, he was honored with the Golden Plaque by Suril Sanjha in Gujarat.
Apart from playing the sarod, his musical works include Nepali albums and compositions such as Palpal, Paanisari, and Tyo Raat; Nepal Bhasa works including Nasala, Hasna, Chhahuninho, and Chhagu Matina; classical music projects such as One Day Ragas and Solphool Music for Meditation; and from India, Suril Music in 2015, along with several CDs and cassettes.
