Trade Hub at Indo-Nepal Border Aims to Boost Bilateral Logistics

Nepal’s Tribeni Dry Port in Rupandehi, near the India-Nepal border, has reached 80% construction progress and is expected to open by December 2025. Funded jointly by Nepal’s government and the Asian Development Bank, the port will handle customs, warehousing, and transshipment services.

Officials say it will ease pressure on Birgunj Port and reduce turnaround time for Indian and Nepali goods moving across the Sonauli border.

The development is also relevant for Indian exporters in Bihar and eastern UP. Once operational, it will open up an efficient new corridor for trade with Nepal’s western region, including Butwal and Pokhara.
