Even during the rainy season, Kathmandu has access to melamchi water

Minister Pradip Yadav confirmed that Melamchi drinking water will be available in Kathmandu during the monsoon season, during an inspection of a water tank near Ribarma River. Minister Yadav confirmed the successful testing of a water tank in Kathmandu Valley, an alternative measure to maintain drinking water supply through the Melamchi Drinking Water Project. The water tank was built to prevent Melamchi River floods disrupting water supply during monsoon. Government aims for sustainable water supply in Kathmandu Valley.

Physical infrastructures have been prepared for it, he noted. Through the tank, the river’s water would be delivered to the Melamchi drinking water tunnel, guaranteeing Kathmandu a steady supply. He added that the distribution system and tunnel were kept up to date to prevent any potential disruptions. Four years ago, the Melamchi flood devastated not just the residents but also vital infrastructure, such as the Melamchi Water Supply Project. Since then, the water supply has been intermittently interrupted, which has caused more problems for the arid residents of Kathmandu.
