This spring, more than 400 climbers obtained permission to ascend Mount Everest

According to the Department of Tourism 412 climbers from 53 nations had received permits to ascend Mount Everest, with women making up 74% of the total. Last year at the same time, 414 people—75 women and 339 men—from 41 climbing expeditions were granted permission to summit Everest. This year, permits to climb a number of Himalayan tops have brought in Rs 684 million in royalties. The Department states that it expects the royalty amount to increase significantly as climbers continue to arrive.

Department has set up a field office at the Everest Base Camp to oversee mountaineering activities on Mount Everest and to ensure safe, orderly mountain climbing. A growing number of climbers continue to strive to reach the summit of the world’s greatest peak, despite the fact that ascending Mount Everest is hazardous and challenging. They include Solukhumbu’s Tashi Gyaljen Sherpa, who has set an aim to beat the record by climbing Everest four times in 20 days this season. In the history of Everest climbing, more than 8,000 climbers from both domestic and foreign nations have reached the peak of the tallest mountain, and the trend of setting new records continues.
