Chaite dhan is being planted by farmers in Nawalpur

In Nawalpur, chaite dhan planting has started. Currently, spring paddy is being planted by farmers throughout the district, especially in wetland areas with sufficient irrigation facilities. Farmers have been gravitating more and more toward growing winter paddy because it produces more than monsoon paddy. In these regions, farmers are helping one another plant paddy. Paddy pocket areas are being created in areas with adequate land and irrigation capabilities to support winter paddy cultivation, according to the Agriculture Knowledge Centre Nawalpur. According to Sanjay Dhakal, the center’s agricultural economist, farmers in regions where the pocket zone is in place receive a 75% cost-sharing subsidy on irrigation, seeds, mechanization, and other inputs.

Dhakal added that the center has set aside NPR 11 million for the program to promote winter paddy. According to Keshav Prasad Tiwari, the center’s head, spring paddy cultivation has been growing yearly because it yields more than monsoon paddy. According to him, spring paddy yields 5.93 metric tonnes per hectare, whereas monsoon paddy yields 3.98 metric tonnes per hectare. Tiwari added that planting has become easier because spring paddy yields are higher and the designated pocket areas have enough irrigation facilities. Chait-5, Hardinath-1, and other native breeds are frequently grown as spring paddy in the district.
