Tarai’s dense fog makes driving difficult

Even though the sun has risen, the outside is still dark. It is hard to see anything even ten meters away due to the dense fog. The biggest issue for drivers in the morning has been the fog. Along the East-West Highway’s Narayangadh-Butwal road segment, there are very few cars traveling, and those that do are doing so very slowly. People in the area have been impacted by cold waves and fog since mid-December of last year. The cold waves and slick roads forced the closure of the Narayanghat-Butwal road segment for a day. The sun is bright in the Tarai at other times, but these days it is hard to see it in the afternoon.

Due to heavy fog and freezing temperatures, the majority of Tarai local levels have been forced to close their schools for the winter. As the cold winter worsened their health, the elderly were dealing with more health issues. To combat the cold, plans have been made to light fires in the streets. According to DSP Jeshi Sah of the District Police Office, plans have been made to light fires in 24 public areas at six local levels throughout the district as part of the office’s initiative. According to CDO Arun Pokhrel, the District Administration Office took the initiative to provide food grains and clean clothing to almost 100 impoverished families throughout the district as the cold wave and fog intensified.
