NHRC Calls for Free, Fair and Fear-Free Elections


The Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, Tap Bahadur Magar, has urged all stakeholders to work collectively to ensure that the upcoming elections are conducted in a clean, free, fair, and fear-free environment.
Speaking at an interaction program organized by the Citizen Campaign for Fair Election, Magar highlighted the shared responsibility of the government, political parties, civil society, security agencies, and the media in safeguarding democratic values. He stressed that voters must be allowed to exercise their franchise impartially and select capable representatives without intimidation or misinformation.
Security officials also outlined their preparedness for the polls. Acting Inspector General of Nepal Police, Dambar Bahadur BK, said arrangements for the first phase of elections have been completed and that personnel morale remains high. Similarly, Additional Inspector General of the Armed Police Force, Ganesh Thada Magar, stated that integrated security plans have been implemented, with dedicated security cells functioning at central, provincial, and district levels.
A representative of the Election Commission Nepal called on political parties and candidates to strictly adhere to the election code of conduct. The official also stressed the need for legal measures to address and penalize baseless allegations made against candidates during the campaign period.
The interaction program underscored the importance of coordination among institutions to maintain public trust in the electoral process. With preparations in place, authorities expressed confidence that the elections would be conducted peacefully and transparently, reinforcing Nepal’s democratic framework.
