Nepal Braces for Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms Amid Active Monsoon

Nepal’s monsoon remains active across the country, with heavy rainfall likely at isolated places in six provinces today. The Meteorological Forecasting Division has forecast heavy rain in parts of Bagmati and Gandaki, the Himalayan region of Koshi, and the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces. Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is expected across many hilly areas, while some Himalayan regions may receive rain or snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms. The Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim could also see moderate rainfall. Among major cities, Bhairahawa, Simara and Janakpur are expected to record the highest temperatures, reaching 33–35°C, while Kathmandu may see 28–30°C and Dadeldhura 20–22°C. The chances of rain are around 60 percent in Kathmandu and Pokhara, rising to 70 percent in Dadeldhura and Dhangadi. The weather office said monsoon winds continue to influence the entire country, with the monsoon trough positioned slightly north of its average location in the west. Similar conditions are expected tonight, with cloudy skies nationwide and chances of moderate rain or snowfall with thunderstorms in parts of the hills and Himalayas. Heavy rainfall is also possible at one or two places in the Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki.
