DHM Forecasts Widespread Rain and Thunderstorms Across Nepal
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has forecast generally cloudy weather across Nepal on Thursday, with widespread rainfall expected as active monsoon conditions continue. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in many hilly and Tarai areas, while the Himalayan region may experience rain or snowfall.
According to the DHM, heavy rainfall is possible at one or two locations in the Himalayan districts of Koshi and Bagmati provinces, as well as in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Lumbini, and Karnali. Parts of the Tarai in Lumbini Province are also at risk of intense downpours. Similar weather conditions are expected to persist into Thursday night, with thunderstorms forecast for parts of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces.
The department said the country remains under the influence of monsoon winds. The monsoon trough is currently positioned slightly north of its average location in western Nepal, near the Tarai, while remaining close to its normal position in the eastern region.
Among the country’s major cities, Pokhara has an 80 percent chance of rainfall, followed by Kathmandu with a 70 percent probability. Widespread showers are also expected in Okhaldhunga and Taplejung. Meanwhile, temperatures are forecast to reach 35–37 degrees Celsius in Janakpur and Dhangadhi, while Kathmandu is expected to record a milder 28–30 degrees Celsius.
