Nepali Congress Calls for PM’s Q&A, Parliamentary Committee on Flood Response

The Nepali Congress has urged the government to schedule a question-and-answer session with Prime Minister Balendra Shah and form a high-level parliamentary committee to oversee rescue, relief and reconstruction in flood-affected areas.

During a meeting with House of Representatives Speaker Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal on Monday, Main Opposition Leader Bhishma Raj Angdembe requested coordination to hold the PM’s Q&A session before Shah leaves for the United States to attend the United Nations General Assembly. The session, originally scheduled for August 26, was disrupted by floods in the Bhote Koshi area.

Angdembe also called for implementation of an earlier proposal by the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party to establish a high-level political mechanism for post-flood response. He said the mechanism and a parliamentary committee would demonstrate political unity during the disaster and help facilitate rescue, relief and reconstruction efforts. He added that the opposition would continue to press the government and Parliament to address the demands.
