Krishnabhir Road Restoration Nears Completion After Flood Damage

The Krishnabhir section of the Prithvi Highway, which was severely damaged by floods and riverbank erosion, is expected to reopen fully to two-way traffic from September 16. The August 26 and 30 floods washed away around 100 metres of the highway, disrupting a vital road link between Kathmandu and Chitwan. The Department of Roads has since mobilised equipment, personnel and other resources to construct a new track and restore the damaged section. A vehicle movement trial conducted on Saturday was successful, with around 20 vehicles, including a gas bullet, travelling from Kathmandu towards Chitwan, while light and heavy vehicles travelled in the opposite direction. The trial was aimed at assessing the condition of the newly constructed track and its suitability for traffic. Although the restoration has reached its final stage, traffic through the Krishnabhir section will remain suspended on Monday as authorities complete road-upgrading and safety works. The Department of Roads has said it is targeting full resumption of vehicle movement from September 16 and has urged passengers, drivers and transport operators travelling before then to follow official notices and instructions regarding alternative routes.
