Nepal Braces for Heavy Rain, Windstorms as Monsoon Continues

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast windstorms and heavy rainfall across several provinces on Friday as the monsoon continues to influence Nepal. Heavy rain is likely at one or two places in the Himalayan, hilly and Terai regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini Province. Windstorms are also possible at a few places in Madhesh Province and the Terai regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini. Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected across many hilly areas and some parts of the Terai, while thunderstorms with rain or snowfall are possible in some Himalayan areas. The country is expected to remain generally cloudy, with heavy rainfall possible at night in parts of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces. The department said the monsoon trough is currently near its normal position. Among major cities, Simara is forecast to record the highest temperature at 35–37°C, followed by Dhangadi, Nepalgunj, Bhairahawa and Dharan at 34–36°C, while Kathmandu is expected to reach 28–30°C with a 60 per cent chance of rain. Authorities have urged residents, particularly those in areas vulnerable to heavy rain and strong winds, to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
