Nepali Congress Rift Deepens Over Convention Schedule

The internal dispute within the Nepali Congress has deepened after former president Sher Bahadur Deuba’s faction rejected the party’s official convention schedule and announced preparations for an independent 15th General Convention.

The central leadership has scheduled district conventions for September 23, provincial conventions for September 26, and the central general convention from October 2 to 5. The Deuba faction, however, has decided to boycott the proposed calendar. Preparations for the parallel convention gained momentum after the Supreme Court declined to halt the ongoing convention process while the broader leadership dispute remains under judicial review.

A preparation committee has called a meeting for Wednesday to discuss plans for the parallel convention, current political developments and internal party affairs. Central members, office bearers and invitees from the 14th General Convention are expected to attend the meeting.
