Shah to Seek Vote of Confidence in Sudurpaschim Assembly

Sudurpaschim Province Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah is scheduled to seek a vote of confidence in the province assembly today. Province Assembly Secretariat Information Officer Tara Kumari Joshi said Shah will face the floor test at today’s assembly meeting after the CPN (UML), a coalition partner, withdrew its support on July 15.

Under the constitutional provision, a chief minister must secure a vote of confidence or resign within 30 days of a coalition partner withdrawing support.Shah had requested Province Assembly Speaker Bhim Bahadur Bhandari on Wednesday to call the meeting for the floor test.

The 53-member assembly has 18 Nepali Congress lawmakers, 22 from the Nepali Communist Party, including the Speaker, 11 from the CPN (UML), and one from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party.
