Nepal’s Monsoon Brings Rain and Thunderstorms to Hills and Himalayas

Rain and thundershowers are expected in several parts of Nepal on Tuesday, with the Himalayan and hilly regions likely to remain mostly cloudy, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division. Moderate rain or snowfall with thunder and lightning is possible at a few places in the Himalayan region, while parts of the hills may experience moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. Isolated moderate rain is also likely in one or two places across the Terai.

Pokhara is among the wetter cities, with a 60 percent chance of rain and thundershowers during the day and a 70 percent chance at night. Kathmandu has a 40 percent chance of light rain and thunderstorms during the day, rising to 60 percent for moderate rain and thundershowers at night. Other hilly areas, including Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Jiri and Taplejung, are also likely to receive moderate rain.

Meanwhile, southern cities such as Nepalgunj, Bhairahawa, Simara and Janakpur are expected to remain partly cloudy and comparatively dry. Temperatures in Bhairahawa, Simara, Biratnagar and Janakpur could reach 34–36°C. The weather office said the entire country remains under the influence of monsoon winds, with the monsoon trough near its average position. Rainfall is expected to remain concentrated mainly in the Himalayan and hilly regions.
